Mohun Bagan made some changes in the lineup for this game, Biswajit Saha returned to his original position which meant Snehashish Chakraborty playing as LW. Karim Bencherifa gave a nod to the new signing Quinton Jacobs who was wearing jersey no. 28.
Right from the start of the game Prayag United were dominating the play. Had it not been Arindam behind the bar then the scoreline could have been different.
The 1st half ended with a scoreline of 0-0. Quinton Jacobs looked really lively in the first half but there was hardly anyone to support him in the midfield. Mohun Bagan just had one shot on target in the first half compared to Prayag United's six. For Prayag United, Lalkamal looked really lively in the midfield and the likes of Bello, Gouramangi were dominating Tolgay's and Nabi's.
Mohun Bagan immediately responded after the lemon break with a goal coming in from Tolgay Ozbey through a superb volley which left Prayag custodian Sangram Mukherjee watching as the ball rolled onto the net. But after the goal there was hardly any attack coming in from Mohun Bagan. Arindam Bhattacharya and Mohun Bagan defenders were left busy as they had to deal the likes of Ranti Martins, Kayne Vincent, Lalkamal etc. For instance Arindam had to collect all the balls coming in from Prayag's flanks and the shots as well.
Prayag coach Eelco Schattorie made some changes in the game to refresh the things in his side, he gave debut to LalMohan Hansda who completely changed the game after coming on.
Mohun Bagan then had one chance to double their lead after Gouramangi Singh made a mistake to allow Manish Bhargav go one on one with Sangram Mukherjee, but Gouramangi recovered quickly to block the effort coming in from Manish Bhargav as Manish's timing of taking the shot was not accurate. Soon after that Manish Bhargav was replaced by another new signing Sushanth Mathew, also Karim Bencherifa had enforced one change before by bringing on CS Sabeeth for off form Snehashish Chakraborty.
Mohun Bagan defense somehow managed to parry away attacks from Prayag United until the 89th minute of the game when Ranti Martins was provided space to take a shot on goal which Arindam saved but the ball then went into the net after getting a touch from Mohun Bagan defender Nirmal Chettri who was facing towards the Mohun Bagan goal then. But that was not the end, Prayag had the best chance to win the game after a Shylo Malswamathulunga's low cross from the right after beating the Mohun Bagan custodian landed infront of the newcomer LalMohan who failed to guide it into the net. Minutes after that referee Khamba Singh blew the final whistle signalling the end of the game which finished 1-1.
Mohun Bagan's next I league game is against the giantkillers ONGC on 1st February, 2013. Mohun Bagan will have their skipper Odafa Okolie back, after he missed out on three games due to suspension.
MOHUN BAGAN 1-1 PRAYAG UNITED
